Announcement.

This week Mr. S. D. Heide of this city comes into full ownership of the Maquoketa Record and The Excelsior.

It is his purpose to consolidate the two newspapers into one publication.

This, therefore, is the last issue of the Record under present management.

Mr. Heide will fill all unexpired subscription and delinquent subscriptions will be payable to him after Friday next, when the transfer is to be made.

This will be fortunate to subscribers as Mr. Heide will doubtless give them a larger and better newspaper than we have been able to produce because of lack of capital to handle the proposition.

The writer will move the Record machinery and type, which he retains, to Delmar, and resume the publication of the Journal which he still owns.

We will keep in touch with the investigation now in progress here and assist it in every way. The change does not mean any “let up” in regard to that until it is finished, and finished right.

We vacate the newspaper field with much regret as we have friends in Jackson county, many of them whose loyalty has been tested in adversity and to whom we are therefore bound by friendships strongest ties. Men and women of high character whom it is an honor to call friend. But the inducement of what we consider to be a long price, together with the prospect of again having two newpapers upon our hands, has induced us to make the change.

Asking for Mr. Heide the same loyal support you have given to us and assuring you that in our judgment the new consolidated publication under his management will accord with the high ideals in newspaper work toward which the Record has striven, we wish you one and all, with deep regret, a farewell.
