Maquoketa Light & Power Company Incorporated

Maquoketa has a new light and power company, as would appear from articles of incorporation filed last Wednesday. The new organization is known as the Maquoketa Light & Power Co., and is incorporated under the laws of the state of South Dakota, where the president resides, the corporation having two principal head offices which are Pierre, S. Dak., and Chicago, Ill.

The incorporators are James S. Sebree, president of Pierre, S. Dak., Edwin R. Emrick, an attorney from Indianapolis, Ind., John J. Epps of Chicago and Ben R. Mowery and M. Taylor of Maquoketa, Iowa. The amount of capital stock authorized is $300,000.00 divided into shares of $100.00 each. The period of incorporation is 25 years. Its object is the same as that of its predecessor, the furnishing of light and power to the city of Maquoketa, Iowa, and its people and the towns tributary thereto.

In conversation with Attorney Emerick who was in this city early in the week, he stated to our reporter that their plan is to first thoroughly strengthen and build up the local power house and when this is done, they will repair the dam at Klondyke and give to this community a first class electric light and power system. The Anderson crowd has been entirely eliminated from control and the people of this city are promised good service from now on, which will indeed be very acceptable, and good news.
