Jackson Sentinel, February 3, 1956:
SOKOL: NO ILLEGAL GAMBLING IN THIS COUNTY.
There are no illegal pin ball machines operating in Jackson county-nor are there any types of gambling devices.
So asserted Jackson County Attorney Ray Sokol Wednesday. Asked to comment on Scott County Attorney Martin Leir's order of Tuesday directing that all sorts of pin ball machines be cleared from Scott County, Mr. Sokol said:
"We know of no pin ball machines in the county that aren't legal." Noting that "certain kinds" of such devices are illegal under Iowa law, the Jackson attorney specifically mentioned "any pin ball machine that pays off" as being a gambling device.
"My office makes periodic checks over the county to insure against the operation of gambling equipment," stated the county attorney. "There are no pin ball machines, to my knowledge, that are violating the law."
