Burris Goes To Capitol Today.
C.J. "Dutch" Burris, state representative-elect from Maquoketa, will leave today, Thursday, Jan. 6(1949) for Des Moines and the 1949 session of the Iowa legislature.
Burris, former Jackson county treasurer from 1941 to 1947 and a Democrat, defeated Dr. Willard Ingalls, Republican incumbent, in the Nov. 2 election. Ingalls, Monmouth veterinarian, was seeking re-election for a second term.
"Dutch" is a former county president of the Young Democrats and operates the Decker Coffee Shop in Maquoketa.
Mrs. Burris will remain here to manage the business, Burris said. As yet, the state law-maker has no secretary. "Not a single application has been received from any one in the county," Burris anounced Sunday. He expects to obtain one when he arrives at the state capitol.(Maquoketa Community Press, January 6, 1949.)
