Man shoots girl and self near St. Donatus.
Jackson County officials said yesterday that no inquest is planned in the murder and suicide of a young Dubuque couple which occurred on Sunday afternoon on a farm near St. Donatus.
Investigation by Sheriff Lorin Felderman and Dr. John Tilton, county coroner, disclosed that Don Cosley, 31, shot and killed Edna Maury, 28, with a double-barreled shotgun and then turned the gun on himself following a quarrel. The couple, Felderman said, had been going together for several years.
Witnesses to the tragedy included Mrs. Irma Shannon, 36; Marilyn Maury, sister of the dead woman; Jacqueline Maury, 10, the slain woman's daughter, and Fred Denio, 35, all of Dubuque.
The group had gone to the Joe Nemmers farm, about a mile west of St. Donatus, where they intended to spend the day on a fishing expedition.
Witnesses say that Cosley fired at Miss Maury when she said she didn't want to go to a movie in the evening. A few minutes later , Cosley fired two shots into his own body.
