Powlisthas Receive Posthumous Awards.

On Monday December 8,(1969) Mr. and Mrs. Louis Powlistha of Maquoketa were presented awards earned by their son, the late Sp/4 Gerald Powlistha, 21 who was killed in action in Vietnam on June 5, 1969.

Gerald had been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, and the Good Conduct Medal. Prior to death, Gerald had been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Sharpshooter Badge with rifle bar.

Major Kenneth L. Ehrecke of Davenport, representing the Commanding General, Fifth United States Army, made the presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Powlistha.

Sp/4 Powlistha entered the Army in February, 1968 and had served 10 1/2 months in Vietnam.
