E.W. SMITH, farmer, Sec. 31; P.O. Cottonville; he was born in 1832, in Erie Co., Ohio; in 1854, he moved to Dubuque, and engaged in mining; in 1874, he came to Jackson Co; they own 118 acres of land. He married Mrs. Matheny in 1874; she was born in Ohio; he has three children by a former marriage - Willie J., Albert G. and Alonzo B.; she has six children by a former marriage-J.E., Alfred S., Marilda A., Martha and Luanna Stevens.
