George F. Green - 1879

GEORGE F. GREEN, capitalist and stock-dealer, Miles; was born in Rhode Island Aug. 15, 1809. He married Miss Sarah Kimball, of New London Co., Conn., in April, 1839; immediately after his marriage, he started for Iowa, reaching Iowa Township in May; he entered a farm which lies in Secs. 32, 33 and 34; residence in 33, where he resided till 1877, when he removed to Miles. Mr. Green was elected to the Territorial Legislature of Iowa in 1846; but a State constitution having been adopted at the same election, another election was held for State officers, and he was elected to the State Legislature; he served two years, and was again elected in 1852; in 1859, he was elected to the State Senate; he was County Commissioner one term, previous to his election as Senator; has served frequently as administrator of estates and as guardian for minors. He has two children - Mrs. Mary Davis and Mrs. Susan K. Walker. Mr. Green is a Democrat; he and his wife are members of the Congregational Church. - 1879 History of Jackson County Iowa, pg 706.
