W.O. GEAR, farmer, Sec. 4; P.O. Gordon's Ferry; born at Galena, Ill., in 1830; resided in Chicago from 1859 to 1875; came to Jackson Co. in 1875; has 300 acres of land, the estate of Capt. H.H. Gear. His wife, Miss Georgia A. Breech, was born in Boston in 1835; came to the West in 1854, and resided at Galena. Married in 1859; they have three children-Emma L.C., Horace Herbert and Ella Josephine. Mr. Gear was with the original surveying party of Gov. Stephens on the Northern Pacific Railroad. - 1879 History of Jackson County Iowa, pg.
