MICHAEL BROWN, farmer, sec. 24; P.O. Bellevue; born in Germany in 1832; came to America and settled in Jackson Co.; has 200 acres, earned by his own work. He is proprietor of the ferry known as Smith's Ferry, on the direct road to Galena. His wife, Maria Ternan, was born in Prussia in 1834; came to America at the age of 10 years, and married in Tete des Morts in 1854; they have five children living - Josephine A.*, Godfrey G., Isabelle, Lizzie and Henry J.; was a Road Supervisor for thirteen years, and Constable two years. - 1879 History of Jackson County Iowa, pg.678.
