Rev. W. S. R. Burnette, of Preston, and Otto Schmidt, of Van Buren, were among the delegates from Jackson County who attended the anti-prohibition-Republican meeting at Des Moines this week. Rev. Burnette took a prominent part in the proceedings and the associated press dispatches say of him: “One of the prominent speakers was Rev. Mr. Burnette, a Methodist minister from Jackson County. He was a presidential elector in 1888. He said he was a prohibitionist, but first of all he was a Republican. – Sabula Gazette
