HAS ABILITY TO SERVE WELL

Dr. F. J. Swift, who is the Democratic candidate for Representative from Jackson county, is a man of unquestioned ability and that fearlessness so necessary for a representative to have to truly represent his constituency at Des Moines.

Dr. Swift was born on a farm in Brandon Township, Jackson county, and with the exception of his college days and his two years in the army has spent practically his whole life here. He has successfully practiced his profession in Sabula, Baldwin and Maquoketa, and also served Jackson county as coroner. He is a man of broad intellect and possesses a degree of tolerance that would enable him to consider all legislation in a broad minded manner, with the one idea of serving all the people fairly. Always a student and thinker, he has kept well posted on government, state and county affairs, and he also possesses initiative, a thing without which a representative would be hopelessly lost at Des Moines.

Immediately after the outbreak of the war the matter of offering his services to his country entered his mind and was given deep consideration as with a wife and small children it was a matter of serious thought. But the extreme need of skilled medical men was so evident and the fact that many by age and physical condition were unable to stand the rigors of warfare, soon made him decide in which way the path of duty lay. He offered his services and was given a lieutenant’s commission and after a period in various camps and canteens went overseas where he cared for the sick and wounded and served with the best of his ability to such an extent that he returned to his home and loved ones in July 1919, with the rank of Major. This coveted rank was the government’s testimony of his ability and strict attention to duty.

The record of Dr. Swift as given above is such that it should command the serious attention of all voters. Let him serve you at Des Moines as he served his country in far off Europe with that ability, integrity, and conscientious devotion that makes for good government and a contented and prosperous people.
