January 24, 1902Sabula and Jackson county should be highly gratified at the showing its two members of the legislature gave made in gaining positions on important committees. Thos. Lambert the genial editor of the Gazette is now the leader of the ten Democratic senators, and placed in nomination both democratic candidates for senatorial honors against Allison and Dolliver. Mr. Lambert is chairman of the Senate Committee on Fish and Game and is a member of the committee on Ways and Means, Congressional and Judicial districts, Constitutional amendments and suffrage, Telegraphs and Telephones, Labor Printing, and Public Libraries. He has apparently been given great consideration by Mr. Herriot than has any other democratic senator.
In the lower house, Mr. Hilsinger has committee appointments which show conclusively that altho one of the youngest of the members, he is among the most influential. Speaker Eaton accorded him the chairmanship of that most important of committees at this session “Senatorial Districts.” As we understand it, his committees work will be the redistricting of the state into equitable senatorial districts. In addition to this very responsible position, he was placed on the following committees; Ways and Means, Judiciary, Banks and Banking, Printing, Congressional districts, State University, and Fish and Game. These are all important committees and his various duties will keep Mr. Hilsinger hard at work until the end of the session. His chairmanship entitles him to a committee clerk, which position will be filled by Frank Wells of Miles.
