Pre Civil War Book of Iowa

Ancestor entered the Civil War as a Union soldier from Iowa County, IA and died before the war ended.

I am wondering if there is a historical novel of Iowa as it prepared for entrance into the Civil War.

I have located one that explains the South's side prior to the Civil War beginning.
