John Christian Klever

I am wondering if John Christian Klever (b. 12 Sep 1866 in Germany) had a previous marriage, prior to his union with Barbara Estella Slager (b. 10 Feb 1875, Iowa). In both of their obits it states that there was a son, Elvin Henry Klever (d. 27 Aug 1898, Iowa) aged 12.

If this is correct, he was born about 1886, when his mother (Barbara Estella Slager) was about 11 years old.

John and Barbara were married in 1894.
