My great grandmother and her family here in U. S.

KATHERINA KNAAK AND UNKNOWN FIRST NAME BRINKMANN

My Gus emigrated to U. S. In 1882 supposedly alone with only my grandfather when he was about one year old. It appears that thefirst mMA she was with was a man with the last name of Brinkman. Also it appears she had one living child with him. But within a year of his birth (about 1885)she is in Rock Island, IL with another immigrant by the last name of singleman and according to census that child has the Single man last name? Am unsure of how correct information, I have, is.
