Orphanage

My grandfather arrived in Iowa County in 1883. He'd come from Norway with his wife & 5 children. His wife died on board ship and was buried at sea. The 3 girls quickly disappear from any records I can find, and they are not in a photo taken in 1886 that I have just received. I am wondering if he might have placed the girls in an orphanage. Does anyone know of one operating nearby in the 1880s? Thank you.
