My mother had a first cousin Gwendolyn Jones who taught in a country around Williamsburg someplace. I remember going to the school when we were in Williamsburg visiting. I can't remember where it was but it was a one room school house grades K-8. This would have been in the middle to late forties. I remember her having to stock the fire with wood before the children got there. I had always gone to "town" schools so I was mighty impressed with that one.
