Norman R. Bahndorf, 78, of Manchester, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 21, 2005, following a long battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Glenn Hunt. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial: East Amana Cemetery, East Amana.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Donna; a daughter, Diana Knoedel of Solon; a son, Jeff (Sue) Bahndorf of Manchester; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Caitlin Knoedel; and a sister, Leona Anderson of East Amana.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Knoedel; five brothers, Henry, Willie, Walter, Ernst and Herbert Bahndorf; three sisters, Edna Lippmann, Viola Unkel and Louise Neumann; and his parents.
Norman was born March 15, 1927, the son of Carl and Francis (Vanous) Bahndorf, in East Amana, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On April 24, 1955, Norman was united in marriage to Donna Kennedy. For 20 years, he worked at Coca-Cola as a plant superintendent and then became an auto sales representative. Norman enjoyed golf, boating and country music, especially Johnny Cash. He was a great dancer. Norman enjoyed barbecuing, riding his golf cart and most of all spending time with his family.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Norman.
