Marvin David Krauss, age 84 of Amana, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at Colonial Manor of Amana, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the Amana Community Church, Main Amana, with Elder Peter Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Amana Church in Main Amana, IA. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Heritage Society or the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Lillian Krauss of Amana; a son, Steve Krauss (Jane) of Amana; a daughter Ingrid (Mrs. Alvin) Schulte and special friend Allen Niebes of East Amana; 4 grandchildren, Tim Krauss (Shannon) of Marengo, Robert Krauss of Amana, Erik Schulte (Erin) of East Amana and Adam Schulte (Kristyn) of Amana; 2 great grandchildren, Kyla and Calvin Schulte; a brother, Don (Eunice) Krauss of East Amana and 2 sisters, Virginia Hoppe and Lucille Eckmann (Harold) of Amana. Also surviving are 2 stepsons, Lanny Haldy (Andrea) of Middle Amana, Lyle Haldy (Vicki) of Kellner, WI, a step-daughter, Leah Fisher (Don) of Cedar Rapids; and 7 step grandchildren, Zach and Ben Neumann, Amy and Andrew Miller, and Shawn, Austin and Cory Huber. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Zensi Krauss and a son-in-law, Alvin Schulte.

Marvin David Krauss was born May 18, 1924 in South Amana, the son of David G. and Helen Seifert Krauss. He attended the Amana Schools and graduated from the Middle Amana High School in 1942. He attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City for 3 years. Marvin married Zensi H. Spoerl on April 26, 1947 in their Amana home. She died September 7, 1978. Marvin served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as a Major in 1965. He along with his father David and sister Virginia founded Krauss Furniture in 1956. Marvin married Lillian Dickel Haldy on May 18, 1991 in Amana.

Marvin was a member of the Amana Church, serving as an elder for over 30 years, and also serving on the Board of Trustees. He served on the Amana Society Board for 20 years, served on the Board of Colonial Manor Nursing Home, and the Amana Sanitary District Board. He was a member of the Amana Welfare Association and the Army Reserve Officers. Marvin enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and traveling. He also enjoyed visiting museums. He especially enjoyed the times spent with his grandchildren.
