Marilyn A. Landon, 80, of Brooklyn and formerly of Millersburg, died Tuesday, February 22, 2006, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the Rev. Ronald Jewett, pastor of the Flint Hills of the Nazarene Church in Burlington, officiating. Pianist will be Grant Landon and vocalist will be Scott Landon. Pallbearers will be Charles and Curtis Cronbaugh, Adam Downs, Steve Huedepohl, Grant and Matt Landon, and Matthew Perryn. Burial will be in the Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marilyn A. Landon Memorial Fund. Marilyn was born the daughter of Walter and Ada Benton Torrance on November 18, 1925, in Hartwick. She was raised and educated in Hartwick and Grinnell and was a 1944 graduate of Grinnell High School. She was united in marriage to William Edward Landon of Mountain Lake Park, Maryland, on May 15, 1945, in Galveston, Texas. To this union were born four children, William “Sam,” Leigh Anne, Scott and Paul. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was particularly dedicated to her children, always maintaining a wonderful and loving home. She took extra care with Sam who suffered from muscular dystrophy for many years. She was an excellent cook, an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing scrabble and bird-watching at her rural home north of Millersburg. She had a lovely singing voice and taught her children many songs they still sing today. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Leigh Anne Downs and her husband, Randy of St. Charles, Missouri; two sons, Scott Landon and his wife, Toni of Burlington and Paul Landon of Des Moines; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carol Kensler of Marengo and Irene Houck of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William on July 22, 2004; one son William “Sam” in 1973; three half-brothers, Scott, Pheral and Clare; and three half sisters, Ruth, Evelyn and Lois.
