Helen E. Jones, age 97, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 2, 2006, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Williamsburg where there will be a Scripture Service at 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by a brother, Glenn McCabe of Williamsburg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Truman in January 1969; 3 sisters, Sr. Ann Marita McCabe, Marietta Schamberger, and Margaret Louberto; and 3 brothers, Edward, James and Harold McCabe.

Helen Elizabeth McCabe was born December 13, 1908 in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of John F. and Maude Mary White McCabe. She attended the Williamsburg schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1927. She married Truman Aubrey Jones on August 19, 1935 at St. Mary’s Rectory in Williamsburg. Helen was employed in various businesses around Williamsburg, most recently as an office clerk with the ASCS office in Williamsburg. She retired from there in 1965 after 20 years of employment.

Helen was a member of the Iowa County Historical Society, the Williamsburg American Legion Auxiliary, and the Royal Neighbors of America. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society, St. Mary’s Cemetery Board, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, reading, and crossword puzzles. Helen was an avid letter writer, and enjoyed writing poetry.
