Robert Lee Hawkins, age 62, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo from complications of a stroke. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Delbert Rankin officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

Survivors include his wife, LaRay; five children from a previous marriage, Candi Tompkins (Randy) of Marengo, Terry Hawkins of Koszta, Tracey Hawkins of Belle Plaine, Trevor Hawkins (Christie) of Belle Plaine and Jason Tatge (Shawn) of Gulfport, MS; four stepchildren, David Slaymaker (Angie) of Belle Plaine, Dale Slaymaker (Mindi) of Marengo, Denise Roberts (Nick) of Marengo and Diane Maas (Rich) of Heathsville, VA; and 10 step- grandchildren. In addition he is survived by a sister, Rosemary Noyes of Koszta and 3 brothers, Bill and Russ Hawkins of Marengo, and Roger Hawkins (April) of Altoona.

Robert Lee Hawkins was born July 5, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Robert M. and Lorna Shaull Hawkins. He attended the Iowa County schools and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1961. Robert married LaRay Knipp Slaymaker on February 14, 1978 at the Presbyterian Church in Marengo. He was employed as a feed salesman and applicator at the Marengo Elevator and at Meier Feed. He also worked at B & P Feed from 1988 -1995 and Kinze Manufacturing from 1995 -2004.

Robert enjoyed traveling in his Roadtrek motorhome, tractors, fishing, and drag-racing. He was an avid gardener.
