Conroy–Vernon Floyd Meyer was born June 18, 1936 at home in Pilot Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Alice Mumm Meyer. He attended Pilot Center and St. Paul Parochial School. Vernon was united in marriage to Fern Von Lienen at the Justice of the Peace in Sigourney on July 22, 1961. To the this marriage they were blessed with three children; Gary, Darrell and Tammy. They owned and operated the Conroy Grocery Store from August 1961 for 10 years. The couple later divorced. Vernon worked for Amana Refrigeration for a number of years and later for Wilson (Farmstead) Meat Packing before retiring. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Vernon enjoyed spending time with his family and friends riding his motorcycle and driving his cars. Vernon died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness at the age fo 69 years. He is survived by his three children: Gary Meyer of Marengo, Darrell (Becky) Meyer of Conroy and Tammy (Brian) Yoss of Otsego, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren: Heather & Amey Meyer, Bethany, Seth and Samantha Meyer, Ashley and Cody Yoss; two sisters: Della (Orman) Stevens of Deep River and Ruth Melsa of Marengo; three brothers: Edward (Annette) Meyer of Marengo, Richard (Marietta) Meyer of Parnell and Leonard Meyer of Conroy and a sister-in-law: Marcella Meyer of South Amana. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Melvin, John, David and Floyd and a brother-in-law: Leonard Melsa. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Pastor Gary Sears will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Interparish School.
