Williamsburg–Karen Kae Peters was born October 22, 1939 in Sanborn, Iowa, the daughter of Pete and Catherine Sawyer Kroese. She was raised in Sanborn graduating from Sanborn High School in 1957 and attended A.I.B. in Des Moines. Karen was united in marriage to Robert H Peters on January 22, 1964 in Sanborn. After their marriage the couple lived in Little Rock, Iowa and in 1970 they moved to Williamsburg. Karen worked for Farm Service in Williamsburg as a receptionist, and in 1994 went to work at the Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Center until retiring in 2004. Karen enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, family and especially her grandchildren, collecting snow owls and celebrating holidays. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she has served as a financial treasurer, past Deacon and Elder and was also member of he Ladies VFW Auxiliary. Karen died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City after a courageous four year battle with cancer at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 19 days. Karen is survived by her husband Robert of 41 years; three children: Tim (Marlys) Peters of Shellsburg, Tammy Sinn of Mc Kinney, Texas and Tom (Cathy) Peters of Williamsburg; four grandchildren: Codee, Casey, Luke and Emma; three brothers: Pete (Evelyn) Kroese of Sanborn, Kenny (Marlys) Kroese of Schaller and Eric (Pam) Kroese of Melissa, Texas and a sister: Linda (Alan) Walvoord of Celinia, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Friday, January 13, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Robin Kash will officiate. Burial will be at the East York Cemetery near Williamsburg. Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm on Thursday at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. There will be a Ladies VFW Auxiliary Service at 6:30 pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Karen's name to Holden Cancer Center Research Fund or Hospice of Compassion for Iowa County.
