Mrs. Mary Wheeler Passes Away In Victor

Mary Harden, oldest daughter of John and Mary Ann Harden, was born in Poweshiek County, Iowa on the 10th day of December, 1866. She grew to womanhood in the vicinity of Victor and on the 16th day of October, 1889 she was united in marriage to John T. Wheeler. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive her: Mrs. Mabel Carter of Marshalltown, Clifford of Neola, Glen of Colfax and Grace of Grinnell.

In the month of March 1902 the infant son, Calvin, passed away and five days later her husband died as a result of pneumonia. After the death of her husband she continued to make her home near Carnforth until her children grew up and went out into homes of their own. For the past nine years she has made her home with her sister, Mrs. E.C. Blair, on the old Harden homestead, six miles north of Victor, where she passed away Thursday evening. May 9, 1935, at 8 o'clock. She had attained the age of 68 years, 4 months and 29 days.

During the pastorate of Rev. Mr. Rex, she united with the Methodist church of Victor and always endeavored to live a devout Christian life and throughout her intense suffering she never wavered from her faith.

She leaves to mourn her passing four children, six granchildren, three brothers and three sisters, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. Church in Victor, Sunday May 12, at 2 o'clock. Rev. O. J. Fix of Victor, assisted by Rev. Mr. Zimmerman of Marengo, officiated. A mixed quartet furnished two selections during the services. Pallbearers were Glen Wheeler, Clifford Wheeler, Virgil Harden, David Harden, Louis Harden, and E. C. Blair.

Interment was made in the IOOF Cemetery.
