FUNERAL SERVICES FOR B. J. GLASS

Funeral service were held Friday afternoon at the McAninch funeral home for B.J. Glass, who died suddenly on Wednesday, July 31. Rev. Hugh Williams of Ladora conducted the rites which included two organ selections. Pall bearers were Louis Shultz, William Merck, John Manatt, Louis Muller, O.J. Bowman and B. R. Bohstedt. Burial was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

OBITUARY

Byron J. Glass, son of James and Louise Hartman Glass, was born at Montezuma, Iowa, October 5, 1869. he was the oldest of a family of eight children and received his education in the Montezuma schools.

On September 1, 1901, he was united in marriage to Ethel May Rohrer of Victor, Iowa, and to the union two children were born, James Benjamin of Brooklyn, Iowa And Hiram Bertrand at home with his parents.

For twenty years Mr. and Mrs. Glass lived on their farm three miles northwest of Victor. Sixteen years ago they moved to town, where they have resided ever since. He was in a filling station for five years, then purchased a harness and shoe shop which he still operated at the time of his death.

Mr. Glass was a great lover of children and was never happier than when he could have his two small grandchildren with him.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and two sons, and his two grandchildren, Carol Ann and James Leroy, besides four sisters, Sarah Swafford and Adeline Glass of Belle Plaine, Elizabeth Chandler of Gibson and Mary Butts of Marshalltown. One sister, Margaret Lofgreen of Montezuma, preceded him in death, October 12, 1939 and one brother, Leroy, August 5, 1935.

Of a cheerful and fun loving disposition, Byron made many friends and he will be greatly missed by all whom he knew.

A loving one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still,
A place is vacant in our home
That never can be filled.

Among those from a distance present for the funeral were E. C. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, Miss Addie Glass, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beal, Mrs. Charles Holmes, Mrs. Eleanor Hutchinson, all of Belle Plaine: Mr and Mrs. G.W. Butts, Miss Margaret Butts, of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lofgreen, Montezuma; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Balford of Tama; Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Mercer of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chandler of Gibson.

Obiturary for a scrapbook that was Ethel Rohrer Glass'. Original Paper unknown. Known death date is Jul 31, 1940. Great-Grandfather of submitter.
