Hiram T. Rohrer, son of John and Elizabeth Rohrer, was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, on Feb 18, 1839, the eldest of a family of eight children - four boys and four girls. He was educated and grew to manhood in the place of his birth, and at the age of 25 he came to Iowa, locating in Victor in spring of 1864. He remained here until the fall, returning to Illinois, where he spent the winter, and journeyed again to Victor in 1865, making this community his residence until his death. He engaged in the livery business for a time, then bought a tract of raw prairie land 2 3/4 mile nortwest of Victor. Here he engaged in farming, and in May 1868, was married to Miss Nancy Ann Gwinn. The young couple took up their task of establishing a home on the virgin soil, and by industry, thrift and good management became prosperous. At the time Mr. Rohrer retired from farming he was the owner of 400 acres of highly developed land.

Eight children were born into the family all of whom are living except two - one dying in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. I.M. Bricker, passing away in January two years ago. The wife and mother died on Oct. 28, 1889. Mr. Rohrer continued to reside on his farm until -----, when he moved to Victor with his sons, Jacob and William, and has made his home here since.

Failing health overtook him last fall and he was last seen on the streets of Victor on election day,------- was stricken with his fatal illness in February, 1927, and had been bedfast for ten weeks. He passed away peacefully about 10:30 pm on Saturday, May 21 at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 2 days.

Surviving him are his sons William, Jacob, Charles and Milton, and two daughter, Mrs. B.J. Glass and Mrs, Roy McBride, all of whom live in or near Victor, besides ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. All of his brothers and sisters had preceded him in death.

Mr. Rohrer was a man of sound principles, good judgement and exemplary character. For a number of years he was connected with the bank of Hartwick as a vice president and director, and his opinions and advice were highly rated by his associates.
