Brett Alan Waddell, age 64 of Marengo, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Visitation: 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 29, 2024, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Rev. Anni Thorn will officiate. The burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery. Kloster Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Brett is survived by his mother, Janice Waddell; a brother Todd (Lesa) Waddell; three nieces Emily Costello (Sean), Abby Waddell, and Sara Waddell (Lance Jefferson); two nephews, Nick Waddell (Meagan) and Jon Waddell; four great-nieces Harper, Layla, Quinn, and Ava; and three great-nephews Kade, Dean, and Owen.

He was preceded in death by his father Larry in 2017, and his brother Kevin in 2020.

Brett was born June 13, 1960, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Larry Waddell and Janice Shaull Waddell. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School with the Class of 1978, and joined the family business, Marengo Monument Company, and he enjoyed many years working with his dad. Upon Larry’s retirement Kevin and Brett continued with the family business until it was sold in 1999. At the time of the sale, it was the oldest family-owned business in Marengo.

Family was a very important part of his life, and he enjoyed staying in touch with family and friends through Facebook. One of his passions was genealogy and the history of Marengo. He loved talking about Marengo and was a go to for anyone that wanted to know the history of Marengo. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing trips and hanging out with his friends. He enjoyed watching the birds and listening to audio books and listening to the 60’s and 70’s rock music.
