Wesley Showman was born January 10, 1944 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Ray and Masie (Cox) Showman. He attended school at Martinsburg. Wes was united in marriage to Lois Biwer on July 18, 1981 in South English. Wes worked at Amana Refrigeration for over 36 years, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Wes died on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 78 years.

He is survived by his wife Lois of South English; children Myra Farrier of Ainsworth, Beth (David) Reid of Washington, Roger Showman (friend Sheila) of Rockford, Gary Showman of Washington and Jennifer (Calvin) Hurlbut of Columbus Junction; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters Lillian Moyer of Iowa City and Martha Albright of Washington. He was preceded by his parents; first wife Nellie; and five sisters Marcella Steven, Esther Cavin, Joann Schafroth, Marjorie Torquist and Nancy Showman.

Celebration Of Life Memorial Service will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery, rural South English. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established for the family, to place a bench in Wes’s favorite fishing spot at Belva Deer Park.
