Constance “Connie” Pacenta Niggel, 89, died of an unexpected illness on her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, November 24, 2022, at the Hospice room in the Marengo Hospital. She was at peace, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Connie was born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, January 30, 1933 to Michael and Alberta Pacenta. She lived her life in Shenandoah, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; Kansas City, MO; Wilmington, NC; and finally South Amana, IA where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

Serving others was her special gift. All who knew her would describe her as one of the kindest and most caring people they knew. Being the loving wife to her husband Bill and mother to their three children, Linda, Michael, and Tim, was her main purpose in life. She excelled at that purpose. Connie had a flair for hospitality, which gave her the occasion to cook for people and try new recipes (one of her favorite pastimes). She was outgoing and never failed to serve people, even when they weren’t aware that they needed her help. She constantly had her eye out looking for those in need. Whether you knew her for 30 seconds or 30 years, she made you feel valued and special.

With her weakening health she was unable to attend many church services, but she never failed to watch online, on her iPad (which was a feat in itself). Connie spent much of her day worshipping the Lord as she listened to Christian music, prayed, and read her devotionals. She was ready to go home and be with Jesus.

She lived her life guided by the Biblical principles of honesty, integrity, love, compassion, and mercy. She was a wonderful example to her family and friends and will be dearly missed. She leaves behind her daughter Linda (Les) Ackerman, daughter-in-law Tina (Michael) Niggel, her son Tim (Kim) Niggel, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and sister Mary Lou Grendell. Her family was the joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, brother Michael, sister Diane, and oldest son Michael.

Connie had a heart for the hurting and handicapped. If you wish to make a donation in her memory, Camp Courageous of Iowa and Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program in Wilmington, NC are two of her favorite organizations.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Compass Memorial Healthcare for the love and care they showed her and her family in her last hours.

The pending memorial service will take place in North Carolina. Updates will be shared on Facebook once they are available.
