Murray Howard Evans, 97 peacefully entered his eternal rest on Thursday, November 10, 2022, while in the care of the English Valley Care Center in North English.

A Celebration of life service will be 11:00 am on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Harrington Cemetery rural Williamsburg (York Township), with military rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. A memorial fund has been established for the English Valley Care Center, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Lutheran Interparish School or donor’s choice. Murray was born October 21, 1925, son of Frank Howard and Clara (Goss) Evans, in rural Williamsburg. He lived on the family farm until joining the Army in 1945. Murray served from 1945-1946 in WWII in Germany. After returning home from the Army he took over the family farm. Murray was united in marriage to Lynn B. Holdinghaus on July 25, 1964.

He worked for Winborn’s before starting his career with the Williamsburg United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for 25 years, retiring in the late 1980’s, while still running the family farm. Murray enjoyed farming, playing cards with friends and family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Murray is survived by his wife Lynn; two children, Wayne (Michelle) Evans of Indianapolis, IN and Sandra (Rob) Gillet of Effingham, IL; 12 grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Baker of Mesa, AZ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Evelyn Griffin, Ed Evans, Carl Evans, Lucille Raasch and Gladys Beasley.

The family of Murray wishes to express their sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the English Valley Care Center for their compassionate care for Murray over the past two-and-half years.
