Funeral services for Charles W. Vincent, 81, Ladora, were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday May 16, at the United Methodist Church Ladora. He died Tuesday, May 15, 1990 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, of a heart condition.

The Rev. Robert Barrick, United Methodist Church, Ladora, officiated. Organist was Debbie Chittick. Burial was in the Ladora Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed Begunck, Leon ‘Bud’ Fuller, Gary Kruse, Harold Nail, Wayne Shaull and Harold Tanner, all Ladora.

Memorials may be made to the Ladora United Methodist Church. McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home, Victor, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles W. Vincent was born Oct. 4, 1908, at Searsboro, the son of Jefferson Davis and Nellie Mae White Vincent. He was graduated from Searsboro High School in 1926. He received a degree in education from the Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Ralls, and did postgraduate work at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and the University of Chicago.

He married Glendora Van Oenen Dec. 24, 1935, at Lancaster MO. An educator over 41 years Vincent began his teaching and coaching career at Dunbar High School and later was a principal and coach at Searsboro and Atkins. He served as a school superintendent at Arcadia, Cedar, Green Mountain, Ladora and Mid-Prairie of Wellman. He was a member of the Ladora United Methodist Church and the Iowa State Teacher’s Association.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Thomas R. Vincent, Las Cruses N.M.; three grandsons, Thomas R.Vincent II, Anthony Vincent and Lance Vincent. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alva and Harold Vincent, and one sister, Roxanne Sheehy.
