Evelyn Hannah Gerard was born July 24, 1942 at her parents’ farm just outside of Williamsburg, Iowa and passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 at her residence in New Braunfels. She was born to Millen F. and Emma A.L. Schwarting Sandersfeld. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, attended Immanuel Lutheran School and reconfirmed her faith in May of 1956 in rural Williamsburg. Evelyn graduated from Williamsburg High School and then graduated from the Paris Academy of Beauty Culture.

Evelyn married John E. Gerard on July 30, 1961. Evelyn worked as a Beautician, a Church Choir director, a Children’s Choir director, a specialty cook, and most importantly devoted her life to being a loving mother and wife to her family. Evelyn spent many volunteer hours with her church, Cross Lutheran, in many different capacities. She believed in Lutheran Education and worked towards their goal of becoming a Lutheran School offering a Christ centered education up to the eighth grade.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, John E. Gerard, of New Braunfels; sons, Dana Gerard and wife Dana of Houston, Quintin Gerard and wife Sue of Eldridge, Iowa, and Lance Gerard and wife Jill of Houston; daughter, Tahnika Mates and husband Tony who is currently serving with the 952nd Engineers in Iraq. John and Evelyn are the grandparents of 13 children.

Evelyn is also survived by sisters, Elaine Wardenburg and Joan Heitman, both of Williamsburg, Iowa, as well as a brother, Louis Sandersfeld of Williamsburg.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Phyllis Iburg and brother, Vern Sandersfeld.

Public visitation will begin 2 p.m. Monday at the Zoeller Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Cross Lutheran Church with Reverend Don Fraker officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Cross Lutheran School or to Hope Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are complete at the Zoeller Funeral Home for Evelyn Hannah Gerard, 65, of New Braunfels, who passed away, Friday, August 3, 2007 at her residence.

Public visitation will begin 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present to receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Cross Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Cross Lutheran School or to Hope Hospice.
