Gary Donald Stockton Sr., 83, of Fairfax died Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Service: 1 p.m., Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Tim Carter. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #572 Pekomy, Fairfax. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery at a later date.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Terri Stockton of Mesa, AZ (granddaughter, Erika (Chris); daughter, Lori Price of Newton (grandchildren, Alex (Beth), Tanar, and Madison (great granddaughter, Peyton); son, SFC Gary “Don” (Sherri) Stockton of Fairfax (grandchildren, Shad (Rachel) [great grandchildren, Jack, Genevieve and Eleanor], Chase (fiancé Nicole), and Shaylee; son, Cory (Stacy) of Fairfax (granddaughter, Ryanne); several special cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Floy; parents; and grandson, Drake.

Gary was born on March 25, 1939 in Ladora, the son of Donald and Ethel Slaymaker Stockton He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1957 and served in the Air Force from 1959 to 1963. On July 13, 1961, Gary married Floy A. Key in Niceville, FL. He worked as a lab tech for the Square D Company for over 42 years and owned G&F Photos. Gary was a member of the Masons, Jaycees and the American Legion Post #572 Pekomy. He coached softball and served as a Hawkeye Area Council Chairman for the Boy Scouts.

Gary was very active in the community, serving on the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years and was an American Red Cross relief volunteer for Hurricane Katrina. He had a huge green thumb, and was known for his gardening and beautiful peonies. Gary enjoyed traveling, going to casinos and never met a stranger. He and Floy were snowbirds in Florida and were camp hosts at Rocky Bayou State Park for many years. Above all, Gary loved his family, especially going to his grandchildren’s activities. He will be missed deeply.
