Richard Rentsch, age 87, of Webb, Iowa died April 26, 2012 at his home in rural Webb.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb. The Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Campbell Rentsch, the son of Robert and Gladys (Campbell) Rentsch, was born in Webb, Iowa on February 13, 1925. He lived his youth in the Webb area graduating from Cornell High School in 1943. Dick faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army from August 18, 1943 until he was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945. During his service to his country, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Dick was baptized at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids in 1960.

On August 22, 1959, Dick was united in marriage to Doris McCall in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Together, they were blessed with three children: Walt, Karen, and Bill.

Dick was devoted to his farming vocation and resided on the same farm for 71 years. He was a man of commitment and served as a member and president of the local school board for many years. Dick was also a member of the VFW, the Graeber- Rowe American Legion Post of Sioux Rapids, and the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. Several of Dick’s favorite pastimes included traveling, hunting, fishing and golfing. The river has always been a significant part of Dick’s life. He’ll also be remembered by his family and friends as being a bit of a tease and his keen sense of humor.

Dick’s life will always be honored and cherished by his family which include his wife of 52 years, Doris of Webb, Iowa; his children: Walt (Teresa) Rentsch of Tabor, South Dakota; Karen (Scott) Roe of Marengo, Iowa; and Bill Rentsch of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren: Adam Rentsch of Italy/United States Air Force; Sarah and Hannah Rentsch of Eldon, Missouri; Jenna and Jaret Roe of Marengo, Iowa; Emily and Abby Rentsch of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; two sisters: Arlene (Dick) Lashier of Clear Lake, Iowa; Betty Fitsimmons of Spring Valley, California; nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Lynn Fitsimmsons.
