David Wayne Baustian was born the son of Wayne Roland Baustian and Elsie Irene (Sterrett) Baustian on January 20, 1955, in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised in Guernsey, Iowa and graduated from BGM (Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom) High School in Brooklyn with the class of 1973.

Following his education, David worked at the Brooklyn 80 truck stop and the Star Inn restaurant as a cook. He restored antiques for many years for Charlie Jacobs, and later Mike Hammes. He was a longtime employee at Victor Plastics and also was the Postmaster at the Guernsey Post Office.

David held a special love for animals, especially cats. He spent countless hours sitting outside his residence feeding the squirrels and birds. He enjoyed watching horror movies and was a big fan of Stephen King. David will be remembered for being tough on the outside but having a loving, gentle soul on the inside.

David is survived by his sister, Patty (Roger) Griffith of Malcom; niece, Amy (Chad) Larson of Brooklyn, her children, Dylan (Hanna Grimm) Eichhorn and Jackson (Madison Minser) Eichhorn, and her grandchildren Aleeah and Briggs Eichhorn; and nephew, JD (Erica) Griffith of Malcom and their children, Parker and Perri Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve Baustian in 2000.
