Jerry, son of Gerald Conway and Lois Margaret (Grice) Ferguson, was born on Thursday, April 14, 1938, in Laurens, IA. After graduating from Laurens High School in 1956, Jerry obtained a BA degree from Buena Vista College and a Master’s degree in Education from Mankato State University (Minnesota State University). He was in public education for 30 years.
Jerry was a member of the Tipton First United Methodist Church and past member of the Tipton Masonic Lodge and Tipton Country Club. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. His favorite sports to play and watch were basketball, golf, and baseball. He enjoyed attending Iowa softball, baseball, and football games with his family. For many years he attended the Drake Relays with his son. In addition to a passion for his career in public education, Jerry enjoyed woodworking throughout his life. Between fulfilling custom orders and donating works for charity auctions, he shared his talent far and wide. He was even known to hand out wooden “HUG”s to anybody he felt might need a smile. Family described Jerry as the dad and grandpa who never missed a concert, stage production, or ballgame of any of his descendants--always their biggest fan. He was also the life of the family group text with a positive thought or encouraging word on a daily basis.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Tipton, IA; daughter, Sherry Ferguson of Coralville, IA; son, Daniel Lee (Debbie Williams) Ferguson of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Jack Lee Wingert of Iowa City, IA, Luke Wingert of Cedar Falls, IA, and Abbie (Travis) Weipert of Tiffin, IA; one great-granddaughter, Asa Leigh Weipert; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Lois; sisters, Sharon Bruechert and Marlene Umbrell;
and brothers, Harlan “Conway” Ferguson and Dell Ferguson.
