Angela Schmidt, 89, of Colonial Manor of Amana, formerly of Blairstown, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, in the care center after a lengthy illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. John's Catholic Church, Blairstown, by the Rev. Paul Baldwin. Burial: St. Patrick's and St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, rural Watkins. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Overton Family Funeral Home, Blairstown, where a vigil service begins at 6 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. In honoring Angela's wishes, the casket will remain closed.

Angela Mary Schmidt was born July 26, 1915, in Norway, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Leise) Schulte. She was raised in Norway and attended St. Michael's Catholic School. On June 15, 1939, Angela married Paul Schmidt in Walford, Iowa. They made their home farming north of Watkins. Angela worked as a homemaker and also at the Ox Yoke Inn restaurant in Amana for a time. Paul preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1986.
Since August 2002, Angela had resided at Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana. She enjoyed playing cards. Angela was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown and the National Catholic Society of Foresters Court 815.
Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Vila Schmidt; and a grandson, Mike Madonna.
Angela is survived by two daughters, Letha Madonna of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mary Novotny of Honolulu, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Craig Madonna, Dawn Reed and Paul Novotny; four great-grandchildren, Mai'le and Ben Reed and A.J. and Brice Novotny; a sister, Viola Voss; and a brother, Lester J. Schulte.
