Anna V. Olson, age 88, formerly of Hartwick, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Premier Estates of Toledo. Funeral Mass: 1 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 2017, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Corey Close officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for F.O.P. Research.

Anna is survived by her children, David (Julie) of Decorah, Janice (Dennis) Kelly of Morton, IL, Thomas (Marilyn) of Cedar Rapids, Douglas of Des Moines, Jim (Mary) of Burlington, LeRoy (LouAnna) of Toledo, Margaret (Curtis) McWilliams of Victor and Randy (Paula) of West Des Moines; nineteen grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Paul Schember of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard in 2002, a grandson Tyler, sisters, twins Marie Posusta and Julia Waterbeck, and Agnes at 2 years old, and brothers, Joe and George Vavroch, and Frank who died at birth.

Anna Vlasta Vavroch was born August 18, 1928 in rural Chelsea, the daughter of Charles and Anna Hayek Vavroch. She graduated from Tama High School and received her teaching degree from the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Anna and Howard Olson were married on August 20, 1949 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama. Anna devoted her days to caring for her husband and children, and later worked at the Hartwick State Bank.

Anna was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed summer vacations with her husband and children. She loved to go dancing with Howard, spend time in her garden, and play cards and BINGO with their friends. She especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anna was a member of the Ladies Red Hat Club in Victor and the Altar and Rosary Guild of St. Bridget’s in Victor as well as St. Pat’s in Brooklyn.
