Charlotte Meyer, 63, of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday evening, Jan. 2, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Charlotte Ann Meyer, daughter of Donald James and Dolores Mae (Ceynar) Meyer, was born Oct. 29, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was raised in Amana and was a 1971 graduate of Amana High School. She initially worked for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. After 10 years with Quaker Oats, she moved to Ottumwa in 1981. While in Ottumwa, she was primarily a stay-at-home mom and also took courses at Indian Hills Community College. She later earned her bachelor's degree from William Penn University in Oskaloosa. In 1994, the family moved to Oskaloosa and Charlotte worked for a short while as a caregiver for Diamond Shelter, now Imagine the Possibilities. In 1998, she began working on the assembly line in the door plant at Pella Corporation. In 1996, Charlotte met Benjamin Lathrop. He soon joined the family, and for the past 21 years has been the love of her life and a father to her children.

Charlotte enjoyed nature and feeding the birds. The music of her youth, rock 'n' roll, was always her favorite and she and Ben loved attending concerts together. She also loved to travel, and in recent years she traveled to see her daughter three times in France. Her children were always her primary focus and she cherished the time she spent with them.

Her family includes her husband, Benjamin Lathrop of Oskaloosa; son, Colby Adam Johnson of Oskaloosa; daughter, Kelsy Ann Meyer of Paris, France; step-daughter; Danielle Lynn Lathrop of Alexander, N.D.; her parents, Don and Dolores Meyer of Amana; her sister, Patricia Marie Meyer (Ronald Ellison) of Ottumwa; and her husband's parents, Tony and Julie Lathrop of Oskaloosa.

A visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation and her ashes will be interred privately at the Marengo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online guest book at www.gvlfuneralchapel.com.
