Mass of Christian burial for Donald A. Yates, 85, was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at St. Mary Catholic Church. He died March 26, 2018, at the Keokuk County Health Center, Sigourney.

Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Arrangements were by the Holm Funeral Home, Sigourney.

Donald Arden Yates, 85, was born May 27, 1932, the son of Solon Tobias and Mabel Barnhart Yates in Sigourney. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1950. After graduating he drove a milk truck and worked on the farm with his dad and brother. He joined the United States Army and served from 1952 to 1954.

On July 26, 1956, he married Margaret (Peggy) McDonald in Parnell. Don farmed near Sigourney and drove a school bus for the Sigourney Community School for 50 years. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Sigourney Savages, and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Peggy, Sigourney; his children Jeff (Trina) Yates, Amana; Jill (David) McElligott, New York, N. Y., and Joel (Linda) Yates, Sigourney, and five grandchildren, Erin McElligott, Bailey McElligott, Addison Yates, Ellie Yates and Solon Yates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and Dean Yates, and sister Beverly Levine.
