ATKINS: James Franklyn Jacobi ("Jim") 83 of Atkins died on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Colonial Manor of Amana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Monday, January 7, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church (8100 Roncalli Dr., Cedar Rapids) with Father Dustin Vu as Celebrant. Visitation will also be at the church from 1 to 5 PM on Sunday. Interment will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday at Calvary Cemetery in Marengo. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for masses and charities of the family's choice.

Jim was born September 16, 1935 at rural Marengo to Franklyn and Lovell (Bell) Jacobi. He graduated from Atkins High School in 1955. Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Hanau, Germany from 1958-1960. The highlight of his younger years was traveling around Europe while in the service. He received a commendation for his leadership and enthusiasm as a cook in the Army.

Jim was united in marriage to Mary Lou McNulty on September 5, 1960. Jim was an excellent farmer and received an award for his outstanding Soil and Water Conservation on his farm.

Jim was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church and had a wonderful gift of faith in God.

His greatest pride and joy was his family, especially when his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered at the farm.

He enjoyed woodworking, creating his own patterns and building for beautiful bird houses.

Jim loved to drive his gator with his dog Ellie in the back. He also enjoyed vacations and playing cards with the neighborhood card club for 48 years.

Jim will be remembered for his patience while teaching children how to make work fun. His gentle nature, kindness to others and witty sense of humor will be remembered by all.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou of Atkins; children, Connie (Marty) Ternus, Vinton, Mark (Amy) Jacobi, Sunrise Beach, MO, Mike (Traci) Jacobi, Shellsburg, Linda (Kerry) Clark, Eldridge, Bill Jacobi, Overland Park, KS, Jason Jacobi, Indianapolis, IN, and legal guardian for Jennifer (Jon) Wilson, Indianola; grandchildren include Matt (Sarah) Ternus, Molly (Tyler) Hackman, Megan Ternus, Mitchell (Taylor) Ternus, Laura Jacobi, Mary (James) Leap, Adam, Anna and Jonathan Jacobi, Brittany, Hannah and Nathan Nolan, Justin (Jami) Clark, Jessie (Joe) Freymann, Jordan (Anna) Clark, Janey and Jeremy Clark, and Valisa Sparks; honorary Grandparents to Zach and Morgan Latting, Kennedy, Logan and Camdyn Gross, Graeson, Kaitlynn and Nick Wilson, Mackenzie Kasner; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Hackman, Noah and Parker Freymann, Kaylie, Landon, Addison, Isabelle, Eden, Carsen and Veralena Clark, William Kasner and Scarlet Burgess; his brothers, Donald, Derald (Carolyn), Dick (Lola) and Steve (Linda) Jacobi; his sisters, Karin (Jerry) Hemrich, Mary (John) Wharton, Judy (Mike) Schmidtberger; his sisters-in-law, Alice Miller, Carol Ann Lund, Darlene (Don) Kerker, Carole McNulty and Linda McNulty and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Gerald and Lillian McNulty, sister, Jean Narveson, brother, Robert Jacobi, sisters-in-law, Mayme, Janet and Pauline Jacobi, brothers-in-law, Wayne Miller, Robert and James McNulty, Russ Lund and Loren Narveson.
