CURTIS G. 'DOC' WUEST
Iowa City

Curtis G. 'Doc' Wuest, 88, of Iowa City, died Oct. 31, 2018, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. He has donated his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Nov. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. There will be a luncheon at Brown Deer Golf Club following the service.

Curtis Graham Wuest was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Carl and Salome Klein Wuest. Curt graduated from Dysart High School. He earned a B.A. degree from Wartburg College and an M.D. from the University of Iowa. Curtis married Joan Kampfe on May 21, 1952, in Gothenburg, Neb. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953. Doc was a family physician for 36 years, including private practice in Amana from 1960 to 1968, and Marshalltown from 1968 to 1988, and University of Iowa Student Health for eight years, retiring in 1997. Curtis had lived in Coralville since 1988, moving to Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City in 2015. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and many national, state and local medical associations. Curt also volunteered at Brown Deer Golf Course.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Joan; his children Timothy (Janet) of Cedar Rapids, Matthew of San Diego, Calif., Dr. Thomas (Megan) of Eugene, Ore., Mark (Caroline) of Zurich, Switzerland, and Deborah Toyosi of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren Amanda (Tadd), Amelia (Jeremy), Abigail (Tom), Allison, Veronika, Samuel, Isaac, Luke, Lenny, Jaden and Dylan; six greatgrandchildren Dutch, Dulcinea, Duke, Jules, Maverick and Teagan; and a sister, Barbara (James) Fritschel of Pittsboro, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law, Constance Wuest.

A special thanks to Iowa City Hospice, Oaknoll Short Stay Unit, UnityPoint Health Infusion Clinic, Dr. T. Carter, Dr. R. Dobyns and Dr. D. Macfarlane for the excellent care provided to not only Curt, but also his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Oaknoll Foundation and Zion Lutheran Church. Curt was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome in 2007, dementia in 2016 and acute myeloid leukemia in July of 2018. Thoughts may be shared with the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
