Obituary - Armilla Ballard - Marcy 21, 1957

Armilla Ann, daughter of Oscar and Lucy Pettibone, was born Mary 30, 1866 in Fillmore township and departed this life March 15, 1957 in the ambulance going from the Stocker Nursing Home, where she was cared for since returning from Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, 6 weeks ago.

She was 70 years, 9 months and 13 days of age. she had been ill for the last 14 years, when she had a stroke.

When a young girl she was united with the Christian church at North English.

On December 13, 1903 she was united in marriage to Charles B. Ballard.

Their home was established in Fillmore Township. Two children blessed their home (Grace) Mrs. Harold Wilhite of North English and Leroy Ballard of the home.

They later moved to a farm at Yankee Point, where she had lived for 43 years. She worked in the Yankee Point church and Ladies Aid and was treasurer of the Yankee Point school for many years until her health failed. She loved working in the Farm Bureau and all things that was a betterment to her community.

Her husband passed away September 7, 1943. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother and father.

She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her children, one granddaughter, Sherry Wilhite, who was the pride and joy of her life. Also one brother, Glen Pettibone of North English. she was almost as a mother to Bertha Welch after her mother's death. She leaves a host of neighbors and friend who will cherish the memories of her life.

Funeral services were Sunday March 17 at 2 pm at the Christian church with the Rev. Oscar Bacrow in charge.

Mrs. Dean Thomas, soloist was accompanied by Mrs. Merle Smith on the piano.

Burial was in the North English Cemetery.

Casket bearers were: Orville Garringer, Cecil Ballard, Dale Ballard, Ralph Ballard, Floyd Ballard, Kenneth Ballard.
