Obituary of James R. Simmons (sent to Marian Bailey by Joel D. Simmons) reads:
James R. Simmons was born July 27, 1862 at North English Iowa, and passed away at Faulkton South Dakota May 18, 1931 at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 24 days. On September 27, 1882, he was united in marriage to Addie R. Mahannah at North English, Iowa. To their union were born three children, Maude, Willis, and Rollie. Mrs. Maude Simmons Fussman passed away on January 1, 1928 and Willis and Rollie reside near Faulkton, South Dakota. In addition to these sons and his wife who survive the departed, he leaves three brothers, Thomas, John, And Frank, all of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Smith and Mrs. Etta Heaston, both of whom live in Omaha, and six grandchildren, Everett Fussman, Mrs. Viola Hansen, Rolland Simmons, Wayne Fussman, Harvey, Howard Simmons and one great grandchild Gwenatha Hanse. Mrs Simmon and his family came to Faulk County, South Dakota sixteen years ago and have resided here ever since. He united with the Christian Church in North English, Iowa when a young man, never transferred his membership to South Dakota. Something over two years ago, Mr. Simmons went to Rochester, Minnesota for examination, but is found that his condition was beyond human aid. His suffering during the long illness has been at times intense, and his faithful wife has ministered to his comfort in every way possible. To his loved ones, who mourn his departure we extend our deep sympathy. Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church in Faulkton, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor Rev. J.J. Pruitt
