OBITUARY, Marengo Democrat, April 23, 1896:

"James Fuller was born at Manchester, Vermont, on the 13th day of August, 1815, and died at his home at Genoa Bluffs, Iowa, on the 17th day of April, 1896, thus reaching the ripe age of 80 years, 8 months and 4 days.

On the 29th of April, 1837, he was married to Miss Hannah B. Mathis, with whom he walked the journey of life for 58 years, 9 months and 14 days, and who preceeded him only 2 months and 4 days. In 1854 they moved to Barne Gat, N.J. where for eight years he was in the employ of the U.S. government taking care of a lighthouse. In 1862 they came to Washington county, Iowa, where they lived on a farm for two years, after which they moved to Iowa county, and for thirty-two years lived in the same house in which they spent their first night in this county. He was post master of this place for a number of years until three years ago, when he received a stroke of paralysis which disabled him so that he could not use the right side of his body. He leaves four children, one son and three daughters, twenty-six grandchildren and four great grandchildren to mourn their loss. Only two of his children--his son, Samuel and daughter, Mrs. J. Been, with whom he lived--could be present during his last illness, and they, together with his daughter-in-law and grandchildren, did all within their power to make his last days comfortable.

The funeral services occurred at the Congregational church, where the pastor spoke of "the continuation of life" a subject in which the deceased had always been greatly interested."
