Funeral service for Betty J. Dye, 82, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

Anni Thorn will officiate at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at Kloster Funeral Home.

Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo.

Betty Jean Bell was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Marengo, the daughter of Leslie and Marybell Schumacher Bell. She graduated from the Marengo High School in 1952.

She married her high school sweetheart, James K. Dye, on July 26, 1953 at her parents’ home. The couple moved to Norway in 1961. She was a housewife, mother and a teacher’s aide at Norway Elementary. In 1979, she started working at the Linn County Courthouse and became the law librarian. The library was later named the Betty Dye Law Library in her honor. She and her husband returned to Marengo in 1997.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Marengo and was active with the Presbyterian Women and the quilting group. She loved children, was an excellent cook, and her endearing smile will be greatly missed.

The Dye family would like to thank Rose Haven Nursing Home and Essence of Life Hospice. Your help and care with Mom will never be forgotten.

Dye is survived by a son David (Diana), Marengo; five grandchildren, Adam Dye, Nick Dye, Holly (Eric) Ethier, Emily Dye (fiancé Kody DeNeve) and Travis (Kara) Schulte; along with several great-grandchildren; also surviving is a daughter-in-law Judy (Larry) Madsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James; son Danny, and a brother Frederick.
