Celebration of life service for Robert L. Faas, 88, Ladora, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. He died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a farm accident.

The Rev. Tom Ogilvie officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Millersburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Lake Iowa Nature Center or St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Robert Louis Faas was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Pilot Township near Millersburg, the son of Floyd and Irene (Hinrichs) Faas. He was baptized on Feb. 3, 1929, at home and confirmed in 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1947 and later attended Kirkwood College.

He married Maxine Grimm on June 12, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg. They were blessed with nine children. Maxine died Jan. 12, 1975.

Robert married Patricia Brennan Carder on May 30, 1976, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg. He was a life long farmer, along with working as a fieldsman for several Iowa County assessors, Poweshiek Water Association, statistician for Iowa Crop and Livestock Reporting Service and US Department of Agriculture.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg, where he had been active as a council member, chairman, trustee and elder until he transferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. He enjoyed fishing and sharing the farm with the grandchildren, traveling, going to flea markets, collecting toys and fire trucks and working in his shop on a project or carpentry.

Faas is survived by his wife, Patricia; seven children, Denise Terry, Davenport; Diane Davis, Coralville; Douglas (Judi) Faas, Evansdale; Dale (Lauri) Faas, Ladora; Darcy (Doug) Knoll, Millersburg; Daniel Faas, Ladora, and Donita (Tim) Huegel, Newton; four step-children, Linda Bock, Tiffin; Dan (Connie) Carder, Coralville; Scott (Jacki) Carder, Williamsburg, and James (Sandy) Carder, Gray, Maine; 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Doris) Faas, Cedar Rapids, and three sisters, Marilyn Pruess, Clarence; Ruth Ann Gorsh, North English, and the Rev. Esther Dant, Arden Hills, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Robert (Carolyn) Brennan, Deep River, and three sisters-in-law, Elaine Faas, Ames; Vonda Netzer, Logansport, Ind., and Mary Grimm, Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Maxine; two infant sons; a sister Phyllis Bauer; a brother, Donald Faas, and stepson Doug Carder.
