Obituary for Ryan G. Quinlan

Ryan G. Quinlan, 27, of Oxford died peacefully Friday, July 21st at UIHC surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Wednesday July 26th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with Father Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Church, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ryan Quinlan Memorial Fund.

Ryan is a confident, strong willed and good hearted person who wants to please people. These traits enabled him to work in the hospitality industry in which he has worked for the past 10 years. Other interests of Ryan include movies, swimming, and mowing the lawn.

Ryan enjoys cooking (which his mom loved having him cook so she wouldn’t have to). He enjoys tractor pulling like his dad which created many fond memories for them both. One of Ryan’s favorite pass times as a child was playing video games with his brother, Nick. Many times this led to arguments but there were always smiles and laughs afterward. Ryan took on the responsibility of talking to his youngest brother, Wes, on the importance of making good decisions while going through high school to avoid mistakes that would keep him from reaching his full potential.

Ryan is an avid Iowa State fan like his Grandma Mary and many a night was spent at her house cheering on the Cyclones. Ryan enjoys traveling especially the family vacations with his Grandma and Grandpa Loan.

Ryan is a great conversationalist. He could spend hours talking to anyone and everyone about anything. He grew up spending many a night talking on his phone with his friends.

Most of all Ryan truly loved his entire family and the time spent with each and every one of them. Ryan’s cousins will always have a special place in his heart. He felt very blessed to have a wonderful nephew, Brooks and cherished the time that he was able to spend with him. Ryan will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Tom and Rachel of Oxford; two brothers, Nick (Hannah) and their son Brooks of Bondurant and Wes of Oxford; grandparents, Mary Quinlan and Ron and Rose Loan, all of Oxford; Aunts and uncles, Randy (Marcia) Loan, Rick Loan, Richard (Pam) Loan, Bill Quinlan and Katie (Jim) Villhauer, all of Oxford, Carol (Rex) Flansburg of Riverside, Tony (Marilee) Quinlan of Coralville and Suzy Quinlan of Iowa City.

Ryan was preceded by his grandfather, Jerry Quinlan and his aunt Jean Quinlan.
